Update on Cancellation of Defined Benefit Plan Arbitration Application made to the Labour Board to Appoint Arbitrator

Your Union filed an application with the BC Labour Relations Board today to have an Arbitrator appointed to hear the Union’s grievance concerning the cancellation of your Defined Benefit Plan.

This action was necessary after the Employer was no longer participating in any attempt to find an arbitrator that both Parties could agree upon.

As this is a very significant provision of the collective agreement, it was hoped that we could come to agreement on an Arbitrator who has experience in this area.

However, the delay from the Company was too much for our members, and your Union, and we are forced to have the Labour Relations Board appoint an arbitrator to hear the grievance. This means the Union and the Employer have no say in who is appointed as an Arbitrator, but an arbitrator will be appointed to hear the case.

The Labour Board will soon appoint an arbitrator and dates will be set. As soon as those dates are set, we will advise the members.

Our remedy is clear, restore the defined benefit plan and pay any losses to our members who have be financially impacted.

We thank you for your patience in this matter. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact your Union Representative.

Sincerely

Glen MacInnes
Union Representative
