Status of Employer filed injunction
There is no injunction against the picket line.
This past weekend, Hertz made a notice of injunction to the membership. Before going to court COPE 378 was able to negotiate an agreement with the Employer which ended the injunction. This agreement is largely a win for your Union and our Hertz members.
The agreement is attached for your review.
Highlights of the agreement:
- Reaffirms our legal right to picket the employer’s locations. We’ve agreed to not unreasonably delay traffic.
- The security guards Hertz hired to watch the picket line (Securiguard) must do only that – watch and report.
- Securiguard can no longer escort vehicles, direct customers, or engage with striking members on the picket line. In effect, Securiguard was crossing your picket line doing your work as scabs. They can no longer do so.
The agreement forces the Employer to stop some of Securiguard’s intimidation tactics. You will have greater comfort on the picket line participating in effective job action.
Remember, effective job action isn’t slowing down cars; it’s moving customers away from Hertz. Effective job action will force Hertz back to the bargaining table where your union will work to get you a good agreement to protect your jobs.
