November 19 is Election Day in Vancouver

Wednesday, November 16, 2011
To: All COPE 378 Members in Vancouver (home emails)

COPE 378 is pleased that all of Vision Vancouver and Coalition of Progressive Electors (COPE) candidates were endorsed by the Vancouver and District Labour Council. You should soon be receiving poll cards in the mail listing the endorsed candidates.

Vision and COPE have worked together on Council, School Board and Parks Board to navigate this city through a difficult economic downturn. They’ve minimized job impacts while maintaining as many services to the people of Vancouver as possible. They share our values on issues that impact our members, such as transit services.

The Vancouver City Council under Gregor Robertson has achieved much over the past three years. They have built new affordable housing, including the first new co-op housing in over a decade. They are building a greener city with a focus on green jobs and making sure that fewer people are sleeping on the streets.

But there is more to do and victory is by no means certain. The NPA’s record with labour in Vancouver has been deplorable, and Sam’s Strike still lingers in our memories.

COPE and Vision need a strong army of volunteers to come out to pull our vote on November 19th. There are many ways you can help on election day this Saturday to ensure that Vancouver elects a council that will continue to work for a more sustainable, fair, and equal society.

Please contact Vision Vancouver’s election day managers at elections@votevision.ca.

Thank you,

David Black
President, COPE 378
