Information and Voting Meetings Coming Soon
Members at Canadian Freightways were informed by their Bargaining Committee in July that the Committee could not recommend acceptance of the employer’s proposed changes to the collective agreement. The employer would not change their position on wages and continued to insist all new hires pay 20% of the premiums for extended health and dental. For more information on the employer’s proposal, read the last union bulletin here: http://www.cope378.ca/canadian-freightways-bargaining-update
At the time, the Bargaining Committee decided to delay the information meetings and subsequent membership vote on the proposals because many members were off work on their summer vacations. The delay was to facilitate the fullest possible participation.
Preparations are now underway to hold meetings starting August 17 in major centres such as Calgary, Edmonton, Lethbridge and Vancouver.
Conference calls will be coordinated for all other regions, including Yukon, and mail in ballots will be arranged. Meeting schedules and other details will be confirmed by bulletin in the next few days. Members are strongly encouraged to attend area meetings – it is the most direct and effective way of getting the information you need to make an informed vote.
In Solidarity,
Your Bargaining Committee:
Brad Eckert
Wes Richards
Frank Brennan
Kevin Payne, Union Representative
