To: All COPE 378 Members - Please Post and Distribute

Hello Brothers and Sisters,

My name is Randy Cheung and I am a Co-Chair of the COPE 378 Multicultural Committee. I want to take the opportunity to offer an invitation to get involved with our Committee in the coming year. We’re always looking for new members and/or volunteers. We welcome your experience and viewpoints and hope that you consider joining our Committee. Our Committee had our first meeting of the year last week and some exciting plans are in the works. If you are not sure what our Committee is about, I or another Committee member would be happy to answer your questions, or to try to arrange for you to sit in on a meeting.

COPE 378’s Multicultural Committee was established in recognition of the growing cultural diversity of the Local and the Union’s need/commitment to growing and strengthening its relationship with multicultural communities. 2012 is shaping up to be a big bargaining year so it’s important to strengthen our communication with the entire Union membership, get more members involved in Union activities, and to support each other.

2012’s not only going to bring challenges but fun as well! So far, the Multicultural Committee participated in the Chinatown Lunar New Year Parade this past weekend. Committee members and other Union members walked in the parade handing out red envelopes. After, we gathered for a dim sum lunch with the proceeds raised donated to a Chinese-Canadian charity. We are also working out plans for Vaisakhi and the Autumn Festival later in the year.

Our next meeting will be held in early March and we will be electing another Co-Chair to join me in steering the Committee. I want to thank outgoing Co-Chair Jan Zhang, who will continue to be involved with the Committee.

If you have any ideas about other events the Multicultural Committee can get involved in, questions about us, or if you are interested in joining our Committee, you can contact us at cmc@cope378.ca.
